DBS Upgrades
Microwave to Digital COFDM
Now available for truck or
portable applications
| March, 2006 -- Direct Broadcast Services has upgraded its microwave capabilities to include digital COFDM technology for the 2, 6.4 and 7 GHz bands. Based on the Nucomm ChannelMASTER equipment, DBS can now offer COFDM transmission services for vans, trucks and portable applications. The equipment provides for the new 2 GHz requirements as of the time the transition takes place in the local market. |
The ChannelMASTER approach also adds built-in capabilities that better facilitate set-up time, particularly for portable application, by including bar/tone generators with ID and multiple inputs to allow for digital or composite video input. COFDM brings several advantages to microwave transmission, notably self-correction of artifacts associated with multipath resulting from reflected signals. Symptoms with analog transmission often include "ghosting" and varying levels of video and chroma. So effective is this correction that COFDM is touted for use from moving vehicles. For applications involving analog capabilities as well as to facilitate tuning in, the new equipment is also capable of analog transmission.
