DBS Upgrades SAT-1
Adds Microwave Capabilities,
Improves Performance,
Usability
and Appearance
| DBS has upgraded its SAT-1 truck, improving its
performance, operations, appearance and capabilities. Most notable
is the addition of microwave to its digital or analog uplink
capabilities allowing the choice of microwave or uplinking to be made
once on-site at un- surveyed venues for breaking news stories.
SAT-1 has been a mainstay of DBS's uplink truck fleet. While its 4-rack interior does not have the production space of SAT-2 or SAT-3, its overall transmission capabilities are excellent with its larger-than-average 2.6-meter antenna. |
The addition of microwave adds flexibility to news operations. For breaking stories from unsurveyed venues, it offers clients the more economical microwave capabilities but should microwave not prove practical from the venue, the truck can uplink instead. DBS's SAT-3 truck also has microwave onboard and this capability has proven invaluable for breaking news coverage. The upgrade was planned during the summer of 2001 but the events on and since 9/11 postponed its implementation. All work was done at DBS's facility. |
