Portable Fiber Optics

Highly portable and lightweight

Multiple signal, bidirectional capabilities

Free from RF and
AC hum pickup

Cuts set-up time and labor

Available for DBS projects or for rental

There are times when the use of "copper" cable is impractical. Very long video cable runs require equalization; long cable runs, especially in buildings, are laborious; and regular "copper" cable can be susceptible to picking up RF and induced AC hum.

Portable fiber optics overcomes all of these concerns. Lightweight and of small diameter by nature, well over 1,000 ft. can fit on a single reel. Fiber cannot pick up RF interterence nor induced AC hum. Portable fiber systems do not require equalization, so set-up time and variables are no more than a short coax cable run.

DBS uses a variety of systems that offer further benefits. Most allow for multiple videos and audios, typically in bidirectional modes. The Telecast Sidewinder, for example, has the electronics for one end housed in the hub of the reel and carries two videos and four audios, yet is as easy to "run" as a single video coax.

In an environment such as New York City, where there is a high concentration of RF and where projects frequently call for cable runs either down a street to an avenue or from a lower floor in a building to the roof, DBS commonly takes advantage of these features to ensure that the signals reaching a transmitter or truck remain of consistent quality.
